In addition, one has to pull some systems of ropes to control the sail. All in all, these activities alone can exercise a lot of your leg muscles, upper body muscles and balancing muscles. The Various Types Of Dinghy Sailboats

When people are speaking about sailing dinghies or dinghy sailboats, one can almost be certain that they are talking about those tiny sailboats for fun, recreation and racing. Originally, these small sea crafts are just utility boats or backup boats for larger vessels such as yachts. But over time, manufacturers have been producing varied designs that can cater to people who yearn for recreational sailing activities. Hence, the tiny sailboats that we usually see these days on the sea, lake and some rivers are the results of such designs.

Dinghy sailing is gaining some momentum in its popularity and development as a recreational activity and as a sport activity much like sport diving is having its heyday among the water activity enthusiasts and hobbyists. Its reputation is now unlike before when it was purely regarded as an exclusive activity for the royalty and the elite. Because of the rising demand for dinghies both for recreation and racing, manufacturers have been competing with each other in coming up with superior dinghies. That is, state of the art designs through the use of special materials for the dinghy hulls are being perfected by these manufacturers. However though, the real contest on who has the best design and reliable dinghy are usually the racing events. This is where the manufacturers get to showcase their ace products. That is why dinghy racing events are becoming popular.

There are just two common types of sailing dinghies. Leisure dinghies and racing dinghies are the two common types of dinghy sailboats. Leisure dinghies, of course, are normally designed for recreational sailing such as those for the whole family. Their simple designs are tailored for a stable and comfortable sailing experience sans the constant moving and shifting of the hull. They are commonly manufactured using some light materials such as wood, aluminum and in some hulls, reinforced fiberglass. Aqua dynamics are not being given much attention in their designs in most cases.

Racing dinghies are designed in a different way. Durability and speed are the driving factors behind their sleek and streamlined hulls. Some popular names under this type are Osprey, Laser, Javelin, Flying Dutchman and etc. These super dinghies come with special hulls made of very light materials and a plethora of stabilizers and in some designs, hydrofoils. The main idea is to get as little drag from the water as possible in order to spruce up the sailing speed. These racing crafts are really fast. However in a race, the ultimate factor that decides the winner is the respective racer’s skills and quick wits. A tough racing course such as the Olympic trail is one of the toughest courses around and the winners in such have been racers with splendid sailing skills and super fast dinghies.
